YES, THAT RIGHT, YOU CAN BELIEVE YOUR EYES. CETME RIFLES WERE HUGELY POPULAR A FEW YEARS BACK, BUT THEN LIKE MANY FINE RIFLES THEY DRIED UP AND DISAPPEARED. WE HAD NOT HAD ANY FOR THE PAST 5 OR 6 YEARS UNTIL A FEW MONTHS AGO WHEN WE GOT IN A SMALL BATCH OF 50. THEY SOLD OUT THE SAME WEEK WE RECEIVED THEM. WELL, WE JUST FOUND ANOTHER SMALL BATCH AND THEY ARE SUPER NICE. THE CETME IS BASICALLY THE SEMI- AUTO VARIATION OF A G-3 RIFLE OR THE H&K 91. IN FACT THE ORIGINAL CETMES WERE BULIT IN SPAIN ON THE SAME MACHINERY THAT WAS LATER PURCHASED BY H&K TO BUILD THEIR FAMOUS HK-91 RIFLES ON. SO WHAT YOU BASICALLY HAVE HERE IS A WORLD CLASS, .308 SEMI AUTO RIFLE AT A GREAT PRICE. NEW BARRELS, BEAUTIFUL NEW BLACK POLY FURNITURE WITH THE SLIM LINE FOREARMS, NICE COMPENSATOR. FLIP TYPE 3 POSITION REAR SITE THAT ALLOWS FOR A SMALL APERTURE, A LARGER APERATURE OR A GROOVE SITE. COME COMPLETE WITH 2-20 RD MAGS AND A 5 RD (LEGAL FOR HUNTING MAG ). LIMITED QUANTITIES SO DON'T DELAY.....THIS IS THE BEST THING TO COME ALONG SINCE ELASTIC TOPS AROUND YOUR STEP INS...
CETME RIFLE.......$579.95..... STOCKING DEALER SPECIAL 3 OR MORE....... $549.95

I do and it's a fine battle rifle. Accurate and easy to clean. I paid a bunch more than $579 for mine.

Any notable differences from a FAL rifle or are they pretty close ?

I have owned a couple (HK and Cetme) a number of years back...the HK in particular was wonderfully accurate, and though I never tested it's durability, I heard of an incident where the top of the HK receiver got a big dent along the charging handle housing which bound up the charging handle, which severely limited the weapon's usefulness.

CETME RIFLES.

Well, I have done a BUNCH of research on the HK-91 clones in the last month, and it seems that the quality ranking looks like this:

HK-91
PTR-91
Cetme
Vector
Century

Maybe some other folks here have some direct experience with them?

This is NOT from personal experience but from what other people have said. The CETME is OK, but you get what you pay for. NOW, personally if I was in your shoes I'd pick up an IMBEL parts kit for around $400, if not less, and then spend another $200 to have a gunsmith parkarize it, put it together, make sure the head spacing is correct, and you'll literally have a fantastic weapon for around $600 bucks, that's as close to new as you can get.... Sorry if I muddied up the waters......:bath:

I don't think it's 'mudding the waters' at all. Why not get a rifle which won't let you down like the FAL as opposed to getting into a rifle such as the H&K design which will definitely let you down under adverse conditions?

Yeah good catch SF, I did miss the price of the receiver, but while looking I did find a few nice Imbel kits for around $200... So lets add this up, kit - $200, receiver about $300 and a NICE gunsmithing job another $200, so to build a decent FAL it's going to be around $700. After doing this, I might look at adding another IMBEL, but I'd like to build a Para version....

You forgot the $100 for U.S. made parts to satisfy 922R requirements.

I've built a few FALs and with a $200 kit, imbel receiver and US 922r parts the cheapest I did it for was about 600 but that was 6 or 7 years ago and i'm sure prices have risen plus you ain't gonna find a nice gunsmith job for $200 - if I was building one today I would think today it would cost somewhere between 800-1000 for a nice job depending on the kit. The FAL is my choice over the cetme - remember it was originally designed for a less powerful version of the 7.62x51 so it may not be as strong as a similar HK91

Thanks for the feedback guys, I've decided to 'pass' on this deal for now.

I already own a DSA Austrian style FAL so it looks like I'm already set.

Re: CETME rifles for $579 !

The HK-91's/Cetmes shoot really smooth and are fairly accurate.

Downsides would be everything forementioned plus

1. damage to the receiver from ejected brass, violent ejections
2. no real good way to attach optics, the claw mount sucks
3. It's heavy, yes the FAL is just as heavy but 100 times more reliable
4. No aftermarket to speak of really, a few parts but not much

I'd love to get my hands on a PSG1 for $579.99.
